How To Wear Our Truman Shirt & Be Right On The Button

How To Wear Our Truman Shirt

The Truman is designed to be a casual shirt, different to our other shirts because of its roomier fit, with no back darts, yet still portraying a slimming silhouette.

They can be worn tucked in or out, with or without a tie, or for an even more casual look, wear unbuttoned over a tee and team with a pair of jeans.

Getting it 'Right on the Button'.

“I have learnt to get a great deal of pleasure from my choice of buttons”, explains Philip Start, perhaps because the vast range of buttons we use are so diverse, and can make a difference to the overall look of an outfit. Depending on the occasion, the choice of button on the garment can define it.

Buttons for shirts

For shirting, our preferred choice of button is Mother of Pearl. As seen on our Truman shirts, we tend to use a white and black Mother of Pearl.

The black is of a dark and smokey nature and goes particularly well with our darker coloured shirts. The white has a beautiful iridescent shine and is a classic detail favoured by Mr. Start.

Buttons for tailoring

A button can make or break a great piece of tailoring, the choice of button is key, and it often is what makes the product feel so luxurious.

We have used a grey smokey Mother of Pearl on our new Black Rivington Soft Suit, giving it a more glamorous look that is most suitable for special occasions or an evening event.

This Spring Summer we have used a white button on our Navy Twill Rivington Jacket, brightening and contemporising the overall look of a classic blazer.

Alternatively in our Made-to-Measure department, there is the option to have covered buttons in the same cloth as your suit, or even in a contrasting fabric if you wanted to make a statement.

We also offer buttons in natural materials, such as Horn and Corozo, (made from a South American Nut), which are classic and of high quality, traditionally used on tailored clothing.

Of course if there is a particular type of button you want, when it comes to Made-to-Measure, the sky’s the limit!

Sham or Functional Cuff?

Here at Mr. Start, the choice is always yours. Our Ready-to-Wear collection features a sham cuff, so that if necessary alterations can be made. Our clients often favour a functional cuff, as it is an indication that it has been made to fit you – A Savile Row detail!
